The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa

Founded on the 19 December 1975 in Tlhabane Rusternburg. This was a come together of four regional Churches; namely, the Tswana regional Church, the Cape orange Regional Church, the Transvaal regional Church and the South Eastern regional Church.

Out of this union was born the following Dioceses: the Cape Orange Diocese, the Central Diocese, the Northern Diocese, the South Eastern Diocese and the Western Diocese. Later on the Botswana Diocese and the Eastern Diocese were added. Today we have the seven Diocese that comprise the ELCSA. Geographically, we are operating in the whole of South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland.

Cape Orange Diocese operates in five of the nine provinces of the Republic of South Africa. Namely Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Free State, Western Cape and a small portion of the North West Provinces of the Republic.

The Diocese is headed by Bishop  Motsamai Z. Manong. The Diocesan Administrative offices are situated at 24 Natasha Street, North view, Homestead KIMBERLEY. The Diocese have a membership of about 60 000  in six (6) Circuits namely; Eastern Cape Circuit, Free State Circuit, Kalahari Circuit, Moriah Circuit, Northern Cape Circuit and the Western Cape Circuit. Each circuit is headed by a Dean.

The Mitchells Plain congregation forms Part of the Cape Town Parish, which is part of the Western Cape Circuit under the direction of the Very Reverend Dean G. De Vries Bock.
